How to give Correction

Mat 18:15 “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.

Duties towards our Brethren

The main difference between Christianity and other religions is this.
In all other religions when they go to worship God, there is no condition put forward because worshipping God in other religion is an individual act. But in Christianity worshipping God is conditional . Relationship with brethren, reconciliation with them, forgiving brethren is mandatory. Going to Worship God without reconciling with brothers and sisters is an offence to God and such worship with an unforgiving heart will not be acceptable to God. This worship is not only futile but provokes God to anger.
Mal 2:2-5 If you will not listen, if you will not take it to heart to give honor to my name, says the LORD of hosts, then I will send the curse upon you and I will curse your blessings. Indeed, I have already cursed them, because you do not lay it to heart. Behold, I will rebuke your offspring, and spread dung on your faces, the dung of your offerings, and you shall be taken away with it. So shall you know that I have sent this command to you, that my covenant with Levi may stand, says the LORD of hosts. My covenant with him was one of life and peace, and I gave them to him. It was a covenant of fear, and he feared me. He stood in awe of my name.
Mat 5:23 -26 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you,  leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.  Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.

So when there is a real reason to break relationship with one brother or sister for a just reason, how are we to do this?

Bible says there are 3 steps

  1. Between you and him alone– Speak individually and point out the mistake.If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.
  2. Take one or two others along with you– Speak with him and point out the mistake in front of 1-2. In AOJ, we have a Core Team in each Region of the Army of Jesus and in each State. “But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses” .

Step 1 is really tough. Let’s check ourselves. How many of you have shown the boldness to go and correct our dear brother or sister. Suppose A finds a mistake in B. B’s mistake has to be told only to B not to C,D,E or F. Our intention is to correct B. Telling B’s mistake to C,D etc is forbidden by Rom 14:4

Rom14:4  Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand.”

If we really find him faulty, the steps we have to follow are these.

B is the servant of God, not the servant of C or D. It is before His own master that is God Himself  that  B falls or stands. And B will be upheld  for the Lord is able to make him stand.
  1. Take him to the Lord in prayer and plead for him to correct him.
  2. If he is under the attack of the enemy, take the responsibility to deliver him/her because he is your brother/Sister and the co-soldier of AOJ.
  3. If you feel you are not able to correct him/her alone, and if you come to know that his mistakes affects not only you, but others, get the help of 2,3 people in whom the Lord has appointed over him in correcting him. In AOJ it is the State or Regional Core Team. (It can be Civil authority, Spiritual authorities, immediate boss etc.).

Still if he /she is not correcting himself /herself, let’s proceed towards the 3rd step.

3.Tell it to the Church

“Telling the Church” is going to the next step in correction. If the person is not accepting the 2nd level correction, the issue should be brought to the Church (Troop Church). This is to avoid scandal and save other souls from rebellion. Because one who is not able to correct himself at the second level most probably would have fallen a victim to the spirit of rebellion. This spirit of rebellion might try to canvass other souls and pollute them by creating disunity and division. In order to avoid that the whole thing that happened should be informed to the Church so that others will be able to understand the situation and make discernments. The whole issue would be shared in the Church . So it would come for a wider consultation and prayer support. The Church will pray for the person too.

4.Let him be a Gentile

“If he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.”
“Considering him as a gentile and a tax collector” means consider him as a non believer. He has gone away from the flock of Jesus Christ. We can pray for their coming back.
Those who are in charge of responsibilities should be alert on the infiltration of satan through any loopholes and avoid entry to him. If anybody is found attacked, let us pray hard for them and bring them back to the flock.
